The Artisans

In Their Hands: Partnering with Guatemalan Artisans

For over 35 years, TOPACA has partnered with a growing network of more than 400 men and women homeworkers and artisans who preserve the rich cultural heritage of Guatemala.

Our dedicated makers span diverse geographic regions, bringing unique regional talents from the small towns around Lake Atitlán and the communities of Sololá, to the towns of Chimaltenango, the surrounding areas of Sacatepéquez, and the vibrant highlands of Chichicastenango, Quetzaltenango, and Totonicapán.

A Socially Responsible, Home-Based Workspace

TOPACA is explicitly not a factory. We operate under fair trade practices and a deeply supportive, socially responsible atmosphere to directly improve the quality of life of the artisans and homeworkers.

The Guatemalan artisans do not have rigid working hours or a centralized, forced workplace. By working from the comfort of their own homes, our artisans retain full autonomy to manage their own time.

Home-Based Freedom

The artisans don't have a specific, forced place to work. They create beautiful crafts from the comfort of their own homes.

Flexible Hours

We do not enforce fixed working hours. This decentralized approach empowers the makers to manage their own schedules freely.

Agricultural Flexibility

Our decentralized model is flexible enough to accommodatevital seasonal harvests, protecting families' supplementary agricultural income.

Empowerment & Bonds

We recognize the hard work behind every single item, ensuring all communities feel deeply valued and respected.

Built on Trust, Shared Heritage, and Native Languages

What truly sets TOPACA apart in the global handicraft industry is our foundation of deep, mutual trust. International buyers are partnering directly with two indigenous entrepreneurs, Tomás and Rosa, who inspire business confidence by sharing their own lived experiences and milestones.

Communication thrives when you speak the same language.

Tomás and Rosa communicate fluently across multiple native Mayan languages—including Quiché, Kaqchikel, and Tz’utujil—as well as Spanish, fostering an environment of absolute transparency and respect with the artisan communities.

Lifelong Partnerships, Proven Reliability

We are deeply proud to share that more than half of our homeworkers and artisans have chosen to stay part of the TOPACA team for over 20 years. By guaranteeing a fair payment and a supportive environment, nothing brings us greater joy than seeing our artisan families grow alongside our business
